Yunchan Lim, the youngest-ever winner of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, blew audiences away last summer with his strength and nuance. Now, he’s back at the Bowl and ready to take on Beethoven’s grandiose “Emperor” Concerto, unleashing the valiant energy from its never-ending arpeggios, scales, and trills. Gustavo Dudamel leads the LA Phil through the sentimental depths and triumphant climaxes Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony. Graceful winds flutter alongside sweeping strings, leading up to a bold brass march to the finish line.
